Literacy Hooks DAY 3
Today I am reinspired to open up those boxes of books on the bottom of my classroom closet and catalog, sort, and showcase!
ARTICLE SUMMARY:
Sixteen Books Went Home Tonight: Fifteen Were Introduced by the Teacher Danny Brassell
This article described a study of one classroom in which a teacher, Mrs. Washington, commited to increase book access and incorporate a daily twenty minute reading workout in addition to the districts comprehensive 3-4 hour reading program. The teacher read aloud for 10 minutes and provided 10 minutes for independent reading time. Students had to record their reading on a log and could take the book home if wanted. This motivated students to select books based on personal preferece and learn to love reading. I plan to incorporate a regular reading workout in my classroom as permitted by time. It will include both read aloud and independent reading, and I can’t wait to start! Hopefully their love for reading and success with it will soar.

Literacy Hooks DAY 1
I was pleasantly surprised to find myself surrounded by a great community of educators. I am slighlty overwhelmed, but excited about incoporating blogspots and wikis.
My favorite thing I know I will establish are fun celebrations: firework, snap, help I NEED MORE!!!
